The Chase (Video Production)

First mystery short film!

  About project:

The main scope of this project was to make a short video about a mystery. The mystery had to involve the main actor getting chased by something. We had to film multiple shots and at least one of each type of shot had to be included in our video. My groups idea for the video was to show the main person getting chased by basically themselves. Our person is struggling with a man vs. self conflict so it looks as if they are being chased by a invisible force but they are really imagining all of that in their head. At the end of the video, my group shows that by showing the main actor carry around a piece of paper with them at all times as they run from themselves and near the end they finally realize what they need to do in order to solve their situation. The actor tears up the paper which has writing on it and the frenetic conflict ends. While coming up with this idea, we had to storyboard our idea on paper to visualize how it would look with the different shots. For example, at the scene that involved the actor tearing up paper, we used a close up to show the writing on the paper. Along the way, I learned that everything you preplan can't always plan out perfectly. When we started filming there were a lot of changes we had to make in order for us to continue filming. We had to change the setting of a lot of shots or take out shots in order for the video to turn out right. Another thing I learned was that editing used up more time than filming the video because I had to delete a lot of unwanted shots and make things pop out more to the audiences eyes. I also had to find music to add in to the video which was very difficult mainly because I'm a indecisive person. If there is anything I could do differently about this video, I would of kept some of the shots that we drew on our storyboard because without them, the video turned out a little more different and it didn't really seem complete. What I would have done the same is keep the storyline the same. I thought our storyline was a great idea and was one of a kind compared to the rest of the classes stories. Experiences I will use to enhance my next project is cooperation. Cooperation is important so you and your partner can come to an agreement and I thought me and my partner did a good job cooperating with this project. I will also draw from the editing experience and be sure to have better time management when editing my future projects.

AB Sequence Video (Video Production)

ABSequence Video

Goal of project:

This is my ABSequence video for Video production. Me and my partner took different shots and made a video out of the shots. Each shot had to tell a story. For me and my partners story, we showed shots of my partner (actress) coming inside the school and going into the girls locker room to lift weights. The different shots we used were close ups, medium, wide, extra wide, medium close up, etc...

Plausible Impossible (Animation)

Donald Video

Screenshots:

(Donald video) Gus smashes bread into the size of cards and shuffles the bread as it turns back into the original bread size.
The plausible and impossible of the screenshot:

This screenshot shows Gus smashing bread so it turns thin and then he shuffles the bread, as he shuffles, the bread goes back to it's original size. The plausible is that you can smash bread and make a sandwich out of the smashed bread. In reality you probably couldn't shuffle smashed bread without it breaking and you couldn't resize the bread as you shuffled it. The impossible is that Gus is able to shuffle smashed bread without it breaking and make a sandwich with the original bread before it was smashed.

(Donald video) Gus is sucking up green peas with a straw while the green peas stay aligned with each other.

The plausible and impossible of the screenshot:

This screenshot shows Gus using a straw to suck up peas which stay perfectly in a straight line and as he moves, it follows. The plausible is that you can suck up green peas through a straw individually. In reality, as you were sucking up the peas, they would just stay aligned as u suck them up and the whole line would not move to follow your straw as you suck. You would probably only be able to suck up one pea at a time if you got close enough. The impossible is that Gus is able to perfectly suck the peas up in a line at he moves back and fourth.
(Donald video) Gus and Donald are both sucking through their mouths with a green pea between them.

The plausible and impossible of the screenshot:

This screenshot shows Donald the duck and Gus fighting over a pea by sucking through their mouths and moving up and down while the pea follows them and floats in the air. The plausible is you can suck enough air through your mouth fast enough to make a small object like a nerd go into your mouth. In reality, you would not be able to suck enough air and fast enough to make a green pea float in the air and follow you, even with two people nothing would really happen, the pea would just move very slowly and you would have to get close enough to it to even get it in your mouth. The impossible is that Donald and Gus are able to suck fast and enough air to allow a green pea to float in the air and follow their movement.
(Donald video) Gus is shaking Donald's hand which causes Donald to bounce up and down in the air.

The plausible and impossible of screenshot:

In this screenshot, Gus is shaking Donald's hand and as Gus shakes Donald's hand, Donald bounces up in the air like he is jumping. The plausible is that you can shake someones hand normally to greet them. In reality you could shake someone's hand hard enough to make then bounce without hurting them or braking their arm. the impossible is that Gus can shake Donald's hand without Donald getting injured and allowing him to bounce as if he is jumping.
(Donald video) Guest walking while hat lifts into air and falls back down perfectly on head.

The plausible and impossible of the screenshot:

This screenshot shows Gus walking to the front door of Donald's house. As he is walking, his hat lift's up in the air and falls down perfectly on his head. The plausible is you could walk and have some sort of movement where your hat moves on your head but in reality your hat wouldn't just lift in the air about 1 foot and just perfectly fall back on your head, it would probably just fall off and land on the ground if you could even get it in the air by walking. The impossible is that the hat lifts in the air while Gus is walking and continues to lift up and down about 5 more times.

Multi-Plane Project (Animation)

Multi-Plane rendered out video.

Steps used to create multi-plane:

This is my Multi-Plane project for Animation. My goal for this project was to make a animation of any setting and make it move across the screen realistically or like how you would see things move from a distance in the real world. For my setting, I chose to make a more lava like area with a lot of warm colors. My background layer was the sky and I use the gradient tool to make it darker near the top and lighter near the bottom. My other 5 layers were a volcano, lava, obsidian crystals, mountains and clouds.

After creating the setting in photoshop with a composition of 5000x480 pixels, I then had to make sure that some objects appeared closer than others so I put the obsidian crystals as the closest to the screen, then lava, the volcano, mountains then clouds as the farthest from the screen so it has a better perspective look to it.

After finishing those steps, I imported my creation into After Effects where I could make the screen move across. All I had to do was drag the objects to the right of the screen, place a position point then move it back across to the other side of the screen. Some objects were placed more farther to the right of the screen than others based on how close they were to the screen. Objects closer to the screen were placed farther so they moved faster and distant objects were placed farther from the right so that they moved slower.

After positioning the objects, I rendered the video out and when played, it moves!

What I learned

When making this project, I learned how to make objects appear and move as if a human was looking at it from their perspective. I also learned and got to used my creativity on this project. For the objects, I learned how to scale objects to make them larger and appear more closer and how to scale objects down and make them appear farther. Last thing I learned was how to make objects move slow or fast by positioning them in a certain spot on the screen and dragging to change speed of the object.
